Role: Product Architect / Based in US
IDeaS Inc. delivers new product to market; beats economic downturn
Proposed Solution to meet Business Challenges
After a feasibility study, IDeaS Inc. decided to reengineer its existing legacy product into a Web based product. Our founder was chartered with the responsibility of architecting the new product, build quick prototypes and implement a rapid productization effort involving teams across US and India. A Crawl, Walk, Run approach was adopted.
Implementation Steps Followed
We delivered the following :
- Assembly of a SWAT team of 4 US engineers & 2 Indian engineers in the US office.
- Incremental building of prototypes. Modules requiring domain knowledge were the responsibility of US staff, while GUI centric work was the responsibility of Indian staff.
- The Crawl Stage was concluded with the release of the first prototypes after 5 months. Working knowledge of Internet technologies was shared by the team. Indian engineers also got exposed to core business logic of the products.
- In the Walk stage, the Indian team members returned back and work was split across US and India (staff ratio of 1:2 between US, India), with the US team being a client of the Indian team.
- First internal production release was made from India, 9 months after release of the prototypes; this heralded the start of the Run stage.
