Role: Technical Project Manager for Global Operations / Based in US

IDeaS Inc. enhances product capability; utilizes US and Indian operations

Proposed Solution to meet Business Challenges

After feasibility analysis, IDeaS Inc. decided to architect an integration layer for its enterprise product, and perform an offshore outsourcing of the design, development and testing, to a reputed company in India. Our founder was chartered with the responsibility of executing the complete operation, within a short turn around time.

Implementation Steps Followed

We delivered the following :

  1. Project specifications were documented using on-site resources of an offshore provider.
  2. An RFP was floated and a reputed Indian company was selected, based on their expertise. Interestingly the original offshore provider which documented the project requirements by providing on-site services to IDeaS Inc, was also a bidder but was not selected.
  3. Establishment of an in-house team to review and monitor offshore project deliverables.
  4. Project kick-off in US with the visit of the Offshore Project Manager for a week.
  5. Execution of the project in India with coordination from the US office. The project was executed in two stages, a Crawl Stage in which tools for testing the software were developed. This was followed by a Walk Stage in which the actual software was developed. Final acceptance testing in US was conducted, 8 months after project kick-off.

The integration layer formed the base for several new integrated product offerings from IDeaS Inc. from 2000-2003. This significantly expanded the penetration of the IDeaS enterprise product in the hospitality market. While the development cost of the offshore outsourcing engagement was 70% of the cost of an equivalent US based operation, the ROI for the business was significant. read more about ROI >>
