Proposed Solution to meet Business Challenges
After feasibility analysis, IDeaS Inc. decided to launch its own offshore operations in India, to execute software development and maintenance operations for its enterprise software product. Our founder was chartered with the responsibility of launching and growing the Indian team, while ensuring that the US (corporate) software group continued moving up the technology and business value chain.
Implementation Steps Followed
We delivered the following :
- A plan for a staged Crawl, Walk, Run approach for building the Indian team, which included effective communications with US.
- Necessary administrative work was executed in India, coordinated from the US.
- Hired the Head of the software group in India, and provided him with training in the US.
- Hired Technical Leaders in India and launched their first projects in non core areas, which constituted the Crawl Stage.
- Periodic visits from either side for hands-on execution and team building were conducted during the Crawl Stage.
- Following success with the first projects, core areas such as development of integrations with third party products, 7*24 hour client support, GUI were taken up in India in the Walk Stage. In parallel, the US team took up the role of product architecting and becoming a client of the Indian team.

Within 15 months from hiring the Indian technical leaders, IDeaS Inc. had successfully built an integrated in-house offshore software operation to meet its requirements for serving the global hospitality market and had entered the Run Stage of offshoring. The operational costs associated with the offshore oustourcing operation to India were significantly lower compared to an equivalent software organization completely based in the US.
